Open Wheeler action at LRP

Round 5 of the Red Pepper Racing league saw a change from the Porsche Cup cars to the Skip Barber Formula 2000 cars for a 35 minute battle at Lime Rock Park.  FSR drivers Brock Cremer and Warren Pickering took the grid after qualifying in 10th and 8th respectively.  After the lights went green the 30 car field hip and shouldered their way around the first lap with some car to car contact into the chicane going up the hill.  Brock and Warren both would have a clean start, but Warren ran wide on the last corner in the opening laps hitting the grass causing a tank slapper, which he managed to catch without taking damage.

As the field started to catch the back markers, Brock decided to attempt an undercut on Neil deBruyn by pitting early in the pit window.  Everything was going to plan until Brock was involved in a crash [pictured above] exiting the pits and going into turn one.  With only the slightest amount of bent steering, Brock would continue on to the end of the race.

Warren on the other hand was showing off his open wheel and crash avoidance skills and was pushing up the field.  When the checkered flag came out, Warren would cross in 5th and Brock after a late battle with Steven Burgess and Richard Hunter would end in 9th.

After five rounds, Brock moves up to 9th and Warren gained nine places and moved into 28th after missing a few rounds.

Next week the boys head to Road Atlanta for round six of the season 17 championship.
